Michael VIII Palaeologus, 1261-1282. Hyperpyron (Electrum, 24 mm, 3.91 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis. Bust of Virgin Mary, orans, within city walls furnished with six groups of towers and flanked by P and an uncertain symbol. Rev. X/M ΔI/Π[...]-[ΠΑΛ] Emperor kneeling slightly to right, being presented by Archangel Michael to Christ enthroned slightly to left and holding book of Gospels in his left hand; to right, XC. SB 2243. Clipped and with a thin flan crack, otherwise, about extremely fine.
